Dairyland Power Cooperative, Barron Electric's wholesale power supplier, is expanding their renewable energy program. The Evergreen Program is for those who are willing to support electricity from renewable energy sources, such as wind, gas-to-energy, and manure-to-energy programs. Dairyland recently expanded its investment in the G. McNeilus Wind Farm, located in Adams, Minn. They added an additional six wind turbines to their power supply at that location, which will enable 4,800 homes to be powered by renewable energy.
Barron Electric members can now support the Evergreen Program by purchasing 100 kilowatt-hours of wind power for $1.50 per month for a year, in addition to their current electric bill. A one-year commitment is required, but after that, subscriptions can be canceled anytime with a thirty-day notice. By participating in the Evergreen Program, members are investing in the future of the environment for their children and grandchildren.
